Maureen O’Donnell, LPC

Hi, I’m Maureen.

I’ve been in this field for over 20 years and strongly believe that with a therapeutic relationship grounded in nurturing collaboration — plus a bit of humor and playfulness when it helps — we can explore the patterns shaped by trauma and toxic parent dynamics. Together, we build skills, strengthen boundaries, and untangle the emotional knots that keep you feeling stuck. As we face the harder moments with compassion and steadiness, we identify and use your strengths to move toward healthier relationships, clearer choices, and a more grounded sense of self.

My Experience

I started my mental health career as a music therapist, spending those early years in hospital settings where I saw firsthand how creativity and connection can help people heal. After earning my master’s degree, I moved into outpatient work, eventually spending over eight years with Kennesaw State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services. During that time, I offered individual and group counseling, gave mental health presentations across campus, and supported developing clinicians through supervision. I’ve been lucky to work with an incredibly diverse range of clients navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and the often‑messy process of becoming their own person. Every step of the way, I’ve loved helping people feel understood, supported, and a little less alone.

I have a strong foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, while also utilizing Psychodynamic and Humanistic approaches. I’m also a big fan of Polyvagal Theory, and use a Trauma Informed and holistic approach in all of my work.

I have a bachelor’s of music in Music Therapy from Florida State University and a master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University.

More About Me

When I’m not at work, I’m usually doing something that helps me slow down and reconnect — going to concerts, watching a good movie, practicing yoga, or getting outside for a hike.

I spend a lot of time with my family, and I share my home with my rescue dog. I also volunteer with Free Mom Hugs, which has become a meaningful and grounding part of my life.
